When i am on the internet..the print is so small that i cant read it. This occurred about a month ago and i cant figure it out.. If i am using my installed software...such as word..the print and font is fine..it's just on the internet , the print is sooo small that i cant read it...help!!!
Answer
From: Bryan Longworth

It sounds like your text size setting has been reduced. If you use the Internet Explorer, click "View", go down to "Text Size", and change your text size to a larger size. Medium is the default, but some people have an easier time reading the screen if the text size is larger. If after trying this step, you still need our assistance: You need A Faster PC! Question
Regarding:

While brushing my hair I heard and felt a pop, much like the sound of a nuckle cracking, above my shoulder blade on my back. I walked around all day with my shoulder raised up to ease the pain - and now I feel like my shoulder is bruised and I feel a tingeling and dull paid in my front shoulder all the way to my elbow and forearm. I have full range of motion - but what is this and can chiropractic treatment help get rid of the discomfort I am feeling or will time do the trick?
Answer
From: Dr. Timothy J. O\\\\\\\'Grady

Colette, Hope you feel better. It could be a shoulder problem or it could stem from your neck. An consultation and exam needs to be conducted before a determination can be made. This does sound like a problem chiropractic treatment can help.

Question
Regarding: Orthopedic Surgery

April 2004 I was in a motorcycle accident. My left leg was crushed from the knee down. There was extensive soft tissue damage. I spent three months in the hospital. Three years later I am still getting infections mostly on my leg but but also else where that require antibiotics. The infections are resistant to some antibiotics and seem to just come on with no apparent injury. This summer I have been on antibiotics three times. This last time was considered fairly serious. I was told after my accident to be careful as the hardware in the leg acts like a manet for infections. My question is, after three years do I still need to be concerned about my leg attracting infections?
Answer
From: Steven Jordan MD

Yes, you do need to continue to be very careful because of the hardware. Our bodies accept the hardware with no problem, but, especially when you have extensive hardware, bacteria can adhere to the hardware and promote infection. Any infection you have anywhere should be treated aggressively to prevent the hardware (and adjacent bone) from becoming infected from "seeding" of bacteria from the bloodstream. It is important to note for others that a simple plate and screws or rod from less extensive trauma than yours, their simple hardware does not pose a significant threat to infection. In severe trauma such as yours, the extensive soft tissue damage along with the foreign material (hardware) is what potentiates the risk.

Question
Regarding: Orthopedic Surgery

Dear Dr. Jordan, I had ACL reconstruction January 15, 2007. I am suffering from severe chronic pain and my quadricep muscles have been atrophied since a week after surgery. I have seen many doctors since the surgery. None have any answers. I am unable to walk without a quad cane and a heavy duty ortho brace. It is difficult for me to perform ADLs. I cannot go up or down stairs. I cannot handle walking on anything other than level paved lots. I went to physical therapy until August 16, 2007. They discontinued therapy because my quadriceps were not responding. My second and third MRIs showed degeneration of the ACL graft and a ganglion cyst. The surgeon who performed the reconstructive surgery stated that further orthopaedic surgery would not fix the knee. He said that femoral nerve paralysis might be the cause of all my pain and quadricep atrophy. I have an appointment in November with a neurologist. How feasible is it that I have femoral nerve paralysis? And, if I do, what treatments can be done to help me regain function? What prognosis would you give someone that is almost ten months out from the ACL reconstruction surgery? Thank you for your help!
Answer
From: Steven Jordan MD

Obviously it is difficult for me to answer these questions well without knowing specfic details of your history and surgery, etc.; but, I will try to help with some geralized statements. Quad atrophy is nearly 100% following ACL surgery, but not to the degree and time frame you are describing. Femoral nerve palsy can definitely be a factor and I agree with the need for neurology consultation. Recovery of the nerve depends on many factors but most importantly the proposed cause of the palsy. Nerve studies that the neurologist will do can help to determine the condition of the nerve. One thing that comes to mind that needs to be ruled out as a cause for your pain, dysfunction, and graft degeneration is subclinical infection. I would not give up on trying to find answers. Also, do not give up on your exercises to try to maximize your function.

Question
Regarding: Computers

Thanks for submitting your question to TCPalm Experts! The following question has been sent to the expert, you will be notified by email when your response is ready. I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1720 - with Vista. When I turn the computer on I get the following message. Windows Internet Explorer failed on loading skin name "minibcont" The file "shell.css" is required in your sscommon/skins/minicont/css/directory. To fix this problem check the skin name in your config file or reinstall the application. I click to close the file and another window pops up and says this window will close. It doesn't so I click to close, the first message pops back up, I close it. The screen blinks several times. Then the computer works fine. Any advise? Can I actually uninstall Internet Explorer? How will I get back online to reinstall it? Is that a stupid question? Help. :)

From: Gordon Foster

Question
Regarding: Orthopedic Surgery

I'm 47 y.o. female with severe lateral compartment osteoarthritis. I had a knee scope which a partial lateral meniscetomy and intra articular bodies removed. This leg has become knock kneed in appearance. My doctor feels a partial knee replacement would help. Would an unloader knee brace help?
Answer
From: Steven Jordan MD

I think an unloader brace is a great idea. They are not quite as sucessful for the lateral compartment as the medial, but it is worth trying. Also, a lateral partial knee replacement tends to be significantly inferior to a medial partial knee replacement. I would recommend avoiding surgery as long as you can.

Question
Regarding:

My computers USB plugs do not work. When I plug anything into them a pop up comes on the screen that says new hardware has been found. Then it just locks up the computer and I have to unplug it to restart. No hardware should even be necessary for my ipod. Kinda confused. Any suggestions?
Answer
From: Bryan Longworth

Candi, The hardware your computer is trying to install is your iPod. When you plug a USB device into your computer, your computer has to install a driver for the device. I suggest you uninstall any iPod software that you have installed. Make sure the iPod is not connected to your computer. Next, re-install the iPod software. When the software prompts you to plug in your iPod, do so. If you continue to encounter the same problem, try plugging it into a different USB port. Question
Regarding: Orthopedic Surgery

hAD KNEE REPLACEMENT 3 YRS AGO AND ITS SO THIGHT THAT ITS HARD AND HURTS TO WALK No one can find anything wrong I don't know what to do thank you
Answer
From: Steven Jordan MD

The answer depends upon whether or not your knee has been stiff the entire time since your knee replacement or if this is a new problem for you. If this is a new problem, then the knee needs to be worked up for loosening, infection, or other reasons for early failure. If the surgeons you have been too are unable to find a reason, I would recommend referral to a major Joint Replacement Center with a revision specialist evaluation
